The Story of Style

From a young age, owner, Krista Smith had two passions, hair and shoes! She dreamed one day of opening her own business, and in 1995, the purchase of 46 Hawthorne was the beginning of seeing this dream come true. Starting with a beautiful, newly renovated space and a team of five stylists, Design Line Professional Hair Care and Retail Centre was opened. Several years later, the salon expanded in size to add Spa services to their clientele. With the dream of a shoe store still in mind, in 2007 a boutique shoe store was opened next to the salon as a second business, known as Klic Fashions. This new boutique offered ladies fashion footwear and was a great addition to what the downtown had to offer.

Fast forward twenty years, when two old friends dream together it's amazing what can happen! Krista Smith & childhood friend Mandy Rennehan of Freshco & RennDuPrat saw an opportunity to change the beauty game in small town Yarmouth, NS. To celebrate 20 years as Design Line & Klic Fashions, Krista made the bold move to merge the two businesses into one with a complete rebranding and renovation, combining the salon, spa and boutique into one entity. This rebranding was a result of Krista's desire to provide an experience like no other. When vision and passion collide that's where the true beauty begins! Paying careful attention to the heritage and legacy of this merchant building, the design created by Mandy was brought to life by the amazing RennDuPrat team. The Style Merchant of Hawthorne Street remains a staple and well known business in the heart of downtown, offering a head to toe service experience!

The Style Merchants design and décor reflects a European flare bringing together both a trendy Paris feel along with an old industrial look and incorporates some of Yarmouth's history in such features as the jail cell door, the repurposed brick wall, and the custom made light fixtures. Krista, known as The Style Merchant, is continuously out and abroad sourcing unique items.
