From Dream to Reality
Krista's Early Years and Beginings
Krista Smith's passion for hair and shoes began at a young age, fueling her lifelong dream of owning her own business. In 1995, that dream started to take shape with the purchase of 46 Hawthorne Street, where Krista opened Design Line Professional Hair Care and Retail Centre. With a beautifully renovated space and a team of five stylists, the salon quickly became a cornerstone in the community.
As the business flourished, Krista expanded the salon to include spa services, broadening the scope of what she could offer her clients. In 2007, her vision took another step forward with the launch of Klic Fashions, a boutique shoe store adjacent to the salon, bringing stylish footwear to downtown Yarmouth.

The Birth of The Style Merchant
Twenty years later, a new chapter unfolded when Krista joined forces with her childhood friend, Mandy Rennehan of Freshco & RennDuPrat. Their shared vision to elevate the beauty experience in Yarmouth, NS, led to a complete rebranding and renovation. In celebration of two decades of success with Design Line and Klic Fashions, Krista made the bold decision to merge the businesses into one unified entity—The Style Merchant.
The redesign, crafted by Mandy and brought to life by RennDuPrat, honors the rich heritage of the historic building while creating a unique blend of salon, spa, and boutique. The Style Merchant now stands as a vibrant destination in downtown Yarmouth, offering a full head-to-toe service experience. The European-inspired décor, fused with industrial elements and local history, reflects Krista’s ongoing commitment to sourcing unique, world-class items and providing an unparalleled experience for her clients.

With 24 years’ experience in the industry, Trudy specializes in short, textured hair-cuts and hair coloring in all shades of red! Trudy loves her senior clients.

Jessica specializes in bridal hair, tape-in extensions, hand tied wefts and custom colors. She has 12 years’ experience and prides herself on her dedication to her clients.
